Natural Flooring
A stylish natural alternative - coir, jute, seagrass, sisal
We now have an extensive natural flooring product range. These natural alternatives provide a more tactile flooring for unique interiors.
Our natural flooring range consists of Jute, Coir, Sisal, Seagrass and wool.
Jute (also known as Hessian and Burlap)
Fibres collected from the skin of the plant are woven to create unique and very durable carpets.

Coir
Coir fibres are found between the husk and the outer shell of a coconut. There are two varieties of coir. Brown coir is harvested from fully ripened coconuts. It is thick, strong and has high abrasion resistance. White coir fibres are harvested from the coconuts before they are ripe. These fibres are white or light brown in colour and are smoother and finer.
The coir fibre is a relatively water-proof and hard wearing material making it ideal for entrance halls.

Sisal
Sisal is a naturally strong and hardwearing fibre extracted from the Agave Sisalana plant that grows in the arid regions of East Africa and Brazil. Traditionally used for making ropes sisal's uniquely tactile quality makes it a popular choice for luxurious home furnishings.

Seagrass
Seagrass is a resistant floor covering that is grown in sea water - once harvested and dried it is spun into yarn. This material makes beautiful carpets that have a rustic charm.

Wool
100% woollen carpets add that extra bit of luxury to a room. Gowlings are proud to be an Axminsters distributor of outstanding quality wool carpets.
